This study investigated the meaning of subliminal messages present in memes about education shared on social networks in Brazil. Based on the hypothesis that these memes convey a negative view of educational goals, a quantitative and qualitative approach was applied to a random sample of memes. The analysis revealed a balance between positive (54 per cent) and negative (46 per cent) messages, with no statistically significant difference. Criticism emphasises students' lack of motivation and immaturity, while positive messages value school commitment, the role of teachers and academic achievements. The results highlight socio-cultural tensions and point to the need to reflect on improvements in the educational environment.
