The present work aims to present an essay that aims to debate the challenges faced by rural teachers who work in multigrade classes. In this study we will present the concept of rural education, and we will discuss how the literacy process takes place in a multigrade class. We will also present possibilities for working on literacy in a multigrade class through active methodologies. We emphasize that this study is the result of ongoing research and therefore we do not have definitive results to present on the literacy process in a multigrade class at a rural school.
