Cultural heritage: an observation on art textbooks

This article proposes to bring to the discussion the theme of cultural heritage and its approaches in Visual Arts textbooks. The Common National Curriculum Base suggests its insertion in the context of basic education, however, it is uncertain if the textbooks made available by the Nacional Book and Didactic Material Program for Brazilian public schools present this theme in their contents. Thus, an observation was carried out in Art textbooks, prepared for the final years of Elementary School, made available by the National Book and Teaching Material Program for the year 2020. We sought to verify how the theme is present in such bibliographic productions. Through this observation, it was concluded that the theme is still incipient, as it is not present in all publications. Furthermore, in those where it appears, it is approached in a superficial way and restricted to legitimated circuits and productions. With this, the importance of the teaching action in expanding the propositions presented by textbooks is perceived, based on other complementary resources.
