Subjects and nature are understood as cultural productions, intertwined with knowledge/power relations, anchored in regimes of truth, which, when questioning us, build our subjectivities. We look at the productivity of Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD) – coined in the book “Last Child in the Woods” (2005) – referring to health problems arising from lack of contact with nature; and for the manual “Benefits of Nature in the Development of Children and Adolescents” (2019). Sayings taken as truths about the prescription of behaviors for doctors and families are analyzed, with the purpose of producing healthy subjects, with more quantity/quality of contact with nature. Cultural Studies are used in post-structuralist strands. The materials are part of the NDD Device, using nature as a health prevention/promotion strategy to govern individual and population behaviors; as an object of medicalization of subjects and current biopower tactics.
