the Museum of Women of Santa Maria

This article narrates the trajectory of the construction of the Museum of Women of Santa Maria (MUSA) and the importance of preserving collective memory, especially regarding women's experiences. The author reflects on her own experiences of forgetting, which began in childhood, and how these memories intertwine with the desire to create a space dedicated to women's stories. The recollection of moments with her aunt Leonice serves as a starting point for understanding the relevance of personal narratives in the formation of identity and memory. The text discusses the evolution of museological practices and the importance of oral history in preserving women's memory. Through lived experiences, MUSA emerges as a place of welcome and resistance, allowing these stories to be told and remembered, reaffirming their significance in the social and cultural context. The author concludes that preserving memory is essential for life and identity, emphasizing that stories not only shape the present but also offer a legacy for future generations.
