The relationship between the nursery schools of Sorocaba (SP) in the 1920s and Joana Grassi Fagundes and the training of her teachers

Given that the history of education seeks to promote reflections on the subjects who lived and were important in the educational contexts of other times, this text aims to present the contributions of the Inspector of Nursery Schools and Kindergartens, Joana Grassi Fagundes, in the 1920s, in the state of São Paulo, in the role of trainer of the teachers of these institutions. The qualitative research used documentary analysis as the main tool for producing the data, obtaining information that highlighted the educational aspect of the educator's work, with emphasis on musical training, attention to cultural and artistic presentations and the disciplining of children. The conclusion is that the beginning of teacher training for early childhood education was developed in a practical, day-to-day way, due to the lack of courses that covered it, and that Joana Grassi Fagundes contributed to this training in Sorocaba's nursery schools, due to her experience as a gardener and inspector in the kindergarten of the Praça Normal School (Caetano de Campos), even with some differences in the educational intentions of the institutions.
