The main objective of this article is to critically reflect on epistemic injustices that women of African descent in the Lisbon metropolitan area experience daily and the ways of dealing with them. To this end, the article is organised into three complementary parts: in the first part, an introductory conceptualisation of epistemic injustice is presented based on various feminist and decolonial theoretical perspectives. The second part explores three relevant axes of analysis in the devaluation of knowledge produced by the black female diaspora. The third part, considering case studies based on the life stories of women of African descent in Portugal, offers concrete examples of some of the counterhegemonic strategies of epistemic and political resistance against the adverse effects generated by epistemological injustice, particularly in relation to racial and sexual questions. Finally, a few brief concluding remarks follow.
