Democracy forever: a necessary historicization in the scope of politics in Brazil

Abstract

It is by revisiting important issues that this text becomes coherent to compose the Working Group (GT 15) called Culture, Borders and International Relations, proposed at the X Multidisciplinary Humanistic Meeting - EHM and IX Latin American Congress of Multidisciplinary Humanistic Studies. Our proposal towards the paths of GT 15 aims at the historicization of events within Brazilian culture, within the scope of the meanings that are being mobilized and reproduced in the political field. If in the inauguration speech of the first election for president of Brazil in 2003, Lula used the word “Change”, in his third term, in 2023, the word “Redemocratization” gains relevance announcing the pillars of his new government with the desire to “ strengthening democracy and regaining national sovereignty”. The winds of denialism, blown by a far-right government, reinforced themes such as “dictatorship and authoritarianism” on the Brazilian scene. Such senses, in turn, encourage the need to revisit the events and the meaning of the dictatorship in an analytical way to echo the inauguration speech of the elected president: “dictatorship never again!” and “democracy forever”.
