Journalism and literatre:
writing as a way of bringing genres closer together

The theme of this work is the premise that journalism and literature are distinct genres, but they are not distant genres. It can be seen that there is a relationship of dialogue between the two in which one and the other share elements or borrow some of their specificities to create their narratives. As Bulhões (2007, p.9) observes, “as much as a definitive separation was imagined from the 1950s onwards (20th century), new and disconcerting moves towards rapprochement between the paths of journalism and literature have been realised in more recent times”. In this way, the main aim of this work is to research the paths that led to the union of two spheres of knowledge - journalism and literature - and their subsequent separations throughout human history, as well as to reflect on the role of writing as a tool for bringing journalism and literature closer together.
