This article critically and socio-anthropologically examines the impacts of the floods that affected the state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2024, highlighting the interdependence between humans and their landscapes. The research adopts an ethnographic approach and draws on field notes, personal diaries, governmental data, and academic materials to outline the developments and social connections of the catastrophe. Theoretical debates on risk and resilience are also analyzed, relevant to understanding the ongoing effects of the disaster and reflecting on possible political and social responses to extreme events. As a result, this work proposes directions for the development of in-depth research on the resilience and adaptation of communities impacted by climatic phenomena, contributing to the formulation of a critical anthropology focused on devastated landscapes and complex relationships between humans and the "more-than-human".
